Topic Research

Stories used: Coatlicue  - She is the mother of the moon and stars. Instead of the story being from her perspective, I will tell it from the perspective of the stars. Ngai  - Ngai is the creator of the Universe. In my version of the story I will make Ngai the universe, and tell a story from its perspective.  Mbombo  - Mbombo is the creator of the Sun, moon, and Earth. He actually vomited them out of his stomach. He also did the same for animals and humans. I would like to write a story with this theme but take a different approach. In my version of this story, Mbombo would be a clay maker. He would make his creations out of clay and animate them. This is how everything came to be.  Ngai: creator of the Universe

Feedback Strategies

The two articles I read were How to Give Bad Feedback Without Being a Jerk and T ry Feedforward Instead of Feedback . Feedback Giving a receiving feedback can be tough for a lot of people including myself. I know people appreciate feedback if its given in a constructive way, I just do not want to hurt their feelings. Sometimes people put a lot of time and hard work in their assignments, but when someone gives constructive feedback, they might take it the wrong way. Maybe they think what they did is not good?  I always appriciate feedback on my work, because I want it to be the best it can be. Sometimes it takes another person's perspective to see an issue that I did not see myself.

Week 3 Story: The Wolf

Image
It was the fifth day without of meal for Wolf. At this point it was getting ridiculous. He had never struggled to catch his prey before, but ever since he was kicked out of his pack, life has just been a battle for survival. Sure, he wasn’t the best hunter, but he could always rely on his pack mates. Now he has no one. No home. And most importantly no food. Wolf managed to find a hollowed out log the other day that he has been taking shelter in. Tomorrow will be better he thought. Wolf’s stomach growled violently as he struggled to fall asleep.  He awoke late in the day. No worries, he hunts best at dusk. Wolf slowly got up and let out a big yawn. It was time to find a meal. He knew of a farmstead close by but never approached it in the past. The pack was terrified of that place. There were these mutated wolves that guarded the tasty meals on legs. Many of his friends have been lost to those creatures. Normally it would be a suicide mission going alone, but he was desperate.  Wolf and

Topic Brainstorm

Topic 1 The first story I read for this class was The Man in the Moon . I thought it was interesting how a living being could be turned into an inanimate object but still have feelings and thoughts. When I re-wrote this story I told the story from the perspective of the Moon. I'd like to further explore story-telling from inanimate objects and I think there are quite a few different possibilities with that approach.  The Moon - Source here   Topic 2  I'm sure we are all familiar with Tarzan or the Jungle Book. They're both stories about people raised by wild animals . This topic is interesting to me because of all the possibilities. I could give the animals intelligence where they are able to use language giving the child the ability to speak naturally, or I could have no language and make the child more feral.  Topic 3 Nursery rhymes is another topic that has a lot of possibilities. Most of us are very familiar with these, but only from a specific perspective. There are

Feedback Thoughts

For this assignment I read " How to Get Past Negativity Bias in Order to Hardwire Positive Experiences " and " A fixed mindset could be holding you back- here's how to change it " Negative Bias Having a fixed mindset when you are sharing your thoughts with others is very counterproductive. I have found myself in many situations where someone with a fixed mindset would not listen to what I was saying. When discussion a topic that can be debated, it is always important to listen to the person who has a different mindset on something. This new perspective might help you further understand the issue.  Negativity bias is something I think many of us have gone through. Imagine if you worked on a project for a long amount of time and put a lot of effort into it. You end up getting many compliments on your work. But you also get a negative comment about your work. Out of all the comments you got, which one sticks? Usually it is the negative one. It is important to real

Week 2 Story: The Man in The Moon

Image
I’ve been the Moon longer than I can remember. I can’t speak, I can’t blink. All I can do is orbit the Earth and stare. I wish I could talk to that wise old man one more time. At this point I wouldn’t even wish to turn back; I would just curse him out and punch him in his old, wrinkled face. But he’s dead so long ago. I saw it. When the time came, I was so happy, but I realized I’d be stuck like this for eternity. The Sun used to be so bright, and so very hot. But I’m used to it now. The constant glare no longer impairs my vision, and the scorching heat is something I have grown used to. Watching life go on without me is a strange sensation, but it has kept me preoccupied for the time being. I’m afraid that might change soon. I’ve seen what the humans are capable of. They fight petty wars and slaughter each other in the thousands. At first it was not too bad, small groups fought each other for food and shelter. But as the years passed and they became smarter and more powerful, things g

Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

The story that intrigued me the most was " The Man on The Moon ". Right after I read the title I was reminded of an old John Lewis Christmas commercial that was about a man on the Moon. However, these two stories told very different stories.  " The Man on The Moon"  focuses on a blacksmith that is not content with who he is. Throughout the story he is always wanting to be something else. A wise man herd his pleas and turned the blacksmith into a stone where it would be cool and windy, because it was too hot being a blacksmith. Eventually the man became tired of being a rock after a stone cutter began to cut him. The man requested he be a stone cutter and he was turned into one. Eventually the man became tired with who he was and asked to be the Sun. The wise man complied and turned him into the Sun. After being the Sun the man realized it was way too hot and asked to be the Moon. Being the Moon was not what the man thought it would be like and did not like how the

Growth Mindset

Image
Growth - by Steven G on Flickr.com I am not familiar with Carol Dweck and have not heard of her until I wrote this blog. Growth mindset is something I have heard of in high school, but it is something that was never really discussed or practiced. I think that a growth mindset is a very effective way to think when approaching the challenges, we are facing today. However, I do not think it is effective in some respects. In many of the classes I have taken in the past there is usually one correct answer to a problem. Many times, I was told exactly how to solve a problem and that I could not use my own way. Sometimes there was another approach to solving a problem but sometimes there was not. Having a growth mindset gives us the opportunity to learn from others and work together to solve a common problem.
