Assignment First Impressions

From all of the assignments we will be given, I am most interested in the storytelling assignments. It appears that I will have a lot of creative freedom when telling stories and I am excited to see what I am able to come up with. Being a STEM major, most of my assignments are pretty straight forward with only one correct answer. I am interested also in commenting on others' blogs for extra credit opportunities. There are quite a few people in this class and it will be fun to get to know a few of them!

Technology

I am very familiar with browser extensions and I use them all the time! I use add block the most in order to get rid of pesky ads that are shown everywhere, especially on Youtube. However, I am not much of a writer so I did not have any spellcheck or word count extensions before I started this class. Most of the time when I need to meet a specific word count I just type it on a Word document and paste it onto here. One thing I would really like to work on this semester is making my blog look nicer. I have never blogged before this week so design is not my number one priority right now. Seeing other classmates' blogs makes me want to step it up a bit, but I know I will improve as the semester passes.  AdBlock is my most-used Chrome Extension

Time Strategies

Image
Time management has always been a struggle of mine. I find myself procrastinating on a lot of my assignments and I end up doing them the day before they are due. In fact, I am doing that right now as I type up this post.  The previous sentence and this sentence were typed an hour a part so now I hope you can understand what I mean. Luckily my chronic procrastination does not affect my grades or coursework in a negative way, and I've learned how to work with it in order to be successful! I am a little concerned about this semester only due to the amount of classes I have. Not including this class, I have 4 other courses that require heavy reading so I am currently figuring out which classes I can sacrifice because there is no way I can do it all.   Looking in the near future I realized I am going to struggle most with procrastination and being overworked so I read the articles "Four Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination" and "The Myth of 'Too Busy'&qu

Introduction to Christian the future Mammalogist

Image
A photo of me! Taken by me   Hello! My name is Christian Hansen, and I am a senior biology student here at OU. After I graduate this spring, I plan on studying for my master’s degree in mammalogy and hopefully pursuing a doctorate degree after that! For a career I would love to be a field mammalogist and help conserve and fight for the many species of animals that are in danger due to our actions. I have always loved animals ever since I was a kid. I have a hamster named Pepper and she is the cutest little thing you will ever see!  My hamster, Pepper. Taken by me  Back in the day I was legally known as Ян Александрович Васалив. A little fun fact about me is I was adopted! I was born in   Pskov, Russia, and given to an orphanage with my twin sister. I currently have no idea who my birth parents are and why I was placed for adoption right after birth. I stayed in the orphanage for about a year or so until my sister and I were adopted into our current family. I am so grateful for the oppo

Storybook Favorites

The first story I read was “The Adventures of Merlin”. This is a character I have not heard of before. The title of this story gave me an idea of what was to come, and that it would heavily focus on Merlin’s life. The introduction explains how Merlin came to be from his single mother Morvryn. Merlin’s early childhood is briefly told, and the introduction tells the reader he is practicing magic as a young adult. The introduction ends with a foreshadowing statement telling the reader that Merlin will change the course of history. The layout of this story was very well done in my opinion. It is kept simple and spaced out, so it is easy to read. The pictures included show what the settings of these stories may look like and may help the reader imagine this story more easily. https://sites.google.com/view/ambrosius/allies?authuser=0 The second story I read was titled “The women of Hercules – Telling stories from her point of view”. I am familiar with Hercules mostly from the Disney movie th

The Island of Maui... My Favorite Places

Image
Out of all the places I've visited throughout the world, Maui has to be one of my favorites! I went to Hawaii in 2015 with my family over winter break. We visited the islands of Oahu and Maui. While these islands are only a short plane ride apart, they almost feel like completely different places. I guess Oahu is more of a tourist attraction. We visited the South-East coast of Maui and stayed in a hotel room that was open to the outside. I had never seen a hotel like this before but falling asleep to the sound of waves in the distance was amazing. One thing that I remember is the amount of chickens that were roaming around. The beaches were beautiful and the food was delicious!  Maui is the island between Hawaii and Oahu -  Pixabay
