Week 13 Story: Smith and Smither

Long ago there was a man who worked as a blacksmith. He had a wife and two young boys. The man dreamed that he could one day give his smithing company to his boys and they would carry on his legacy. One of the boy's name was Smither. He was goal driven and loved to help his father in the shop. Smith was the other brother. Instead of helping his father, Smith liked to relax and do whatever he wanted.

When the boys were older, about 18, their parents were killed by a thief on a road to the main city. The blacksmith company was given to the boys to continue their father's legacy. Smither vowed that he would be a great blacksmith just like his father. He took his job very seriously and quickly became very well-known throughout the kingdom. Smith did not care to work and continued to fool around, relying on his brother to provide for both of them. He would also ask Smither many dumb questions just to get on his nerves.

One day Smither was working in the shop while Smith was sitting at a table in the corner of the room.

"Hey Smither!" Smith said, "Smither!"

Smither closed his eyes and sighed, "What, Smith?"

"Oh never mind it's not important."

"Whatever." Smither went back to work.

"What are you doing?" asked Smith.

"I'm working. What does it look like?" Smither snapped.

"You're always working. Why not have some fun and hang out with me?" Smith asked.

"Because I'm the only one that works here! I have to do everything for you and me because I know father would be upset if I didn't! All you do is sit on your ass and ask dumb questions." Smither was yelling at this point.

Smith smiled. "What does it matter what father would have wanted? He's dead!"

At this point Smither was furious. He was sick of his brother's stupid attitude and his lack of empathy for their late parents.

He picked up the knife he was working on. It was glowing from the heat. "I hate you, you ungrateful brat!" he yelled and threw the knife at Smith's face.

Author's Notes: I based this story off of Mouse and Mouser which is linked below. In that story a mouse is talking to a cat who is clearly annoyed. At the end of the story, the cat kills the mouse. I tried to keep a similar theme in my story, but I changed the characters a bit.
