Week 14 Story: The Dog and the Corpse

Image
When I was very young, my mother abandoned me and my siblings. I'll never understand why she did that. I was the only one who managed to survive. It was a cold night and I could feel myself getting very weak and tired. Luckily, a human scooped me into its arms and took me to its den. Ever since, Master and I have been the best of friends. We would spend everyday together and it made me so happy. I could tell Master was happy too by the noises he would make when we played. Sometimes if I was lucky, I would be able to hunt with him! That was the most fun! Mostly we would hunt deer but sometimes we would come across a bear or even wolves! We were never in any trouble though, because we would always protect each other. Today is one of those days that we hunt together! Normally we would stay along the tree line, but today Master decided to go deep into the forest on an old path. I can't complain, there are so many new smells out here! I trot a few paces ahead of Master, smelling ou...

One of the boy's name was Smither. He was goal driven and loved to help his father in the shop. Smith was the other brother. Instead of helping his father, Smith liked to relax and do whatever he wanted. When the boys were older, about 18, their parents were killed by a thief on a road to the main city. The blacksmith company was given to the boys to continue their father's legacy. Smither vowed that he would be a great blacksmith just like his father. He took his job very seriously and quickly became very well-known throughout the kingdom. Smith did not care to work and continued to fool around, relying on his brother to provide for both of them. He would also ask Smither many dumb questions just to get on his nerves. One day Smither was working in the shop while Smith was sitting...

Later, on her way home, she came across a few elves which scared her. When she returned her children were okay. Soon, they realized something was wrong with the twins when they never grew. One day the woman went to a wise man to see what could be done. He told her to meet reapers and give them egg shells with potage in them. If the children speak after this then they must be thrown into the lake. The children then said "Acorn before oak I knew, an egg before a hen, but I never heard of an eggshell brew a dinner for harvest men." Week 12 Story: The War Between the Pigs & Wolves

Image
Dear Mother, Five years ago my two younger brothers and I went into training to help fight in the Great War between the Pig Kingdom and the Wolf Empire. Since then, life has been absolute hell. On a good note, I was recently promoted to Colonel and am stationed at Fort Brick. My brothers were both promoted as Lieutenants and have been sent off to Fort Straw and Fort Furze. They have worked so hard since we got here and I am so proud of them. I haven't seen the two of them for months and last I heard, they were attacked by small squadrons of wolves lead by the fearsome Lieutenant General Canis Howl. I'm sure they're both okay; I know they can handle themselves. But I'm still worried. Fort Straw and Furze are known for not being the most dependable fortresses to defend. They just weren't built for heavy attacks. The Wolf Empire has recently developed a way to harness wind power as an attack strategy which has devastated our forces throughout the front lines.  Either w...

Week 12 Reading Notes: The Story of the Three Little Pigs

Image
There was once a sow with three little pigs. She was unable to keep them so they went to seek their own lives. The first pig got some straw that he managed to make a house with. A wolf came along and asked to come in. When the pig said no, he destroyed the house and killed the pig. The second pig found a man with furze and built a house with that. He had the same fate as the first pig. The third pig made a house out of bricks that the wolf was not able to breach. The wolf tried to trick the pig multiple times to come out, telling him about turnips and apples but the pig was too smart. The wolf tried to go down the chimney but there was a pot of water. The pig boiled the wolf alive and ate him. Three pigs and their Mum - Source Story Source

Week 11 Story - Grizzly Bear's Reign on the World

Image
The world had always been like it is today. A day was light half of the time, and dark the other half. Winter lasted half of the year, and the other half was summer. Most of the animals liked the long summer days. They could play with their friends and enjoy the beauty of their home. However, others were not so keen on the long and hot summer days.  Grizzly Bear was an older fellow who lived on the top of a mountain. Many knew him as being fat and grumpy. Bear didn't ever deny their opinions. In fact, they were all true. A good day for Bear would be one where he can sleep all day, snuggled in his soft bedding to keep warm.  One day bear woke up from a ray of sun shining into his cave. It was an especially hot and bright that day. "I hate this so much," Bear muttered to himself, "I wish I could make it cold and dark all the time so I can just sleep in peace." Bear suddenly had an idea. His mom used to tell him and his brother about ancient bears that were able t...

Reading Notes - Grizzly Bear and Coyote

Image
One day Bear met Coyote and told him that he is magical and that he plans on making the entire world always dark. Coyote objected because he knew the humans would not like this. Even so, the bear began to dance and made it dark. In protest, the coyote danced as well but for the light. When one animal was louder than the other, they were able to control if there was light or not. Once they became tired they began to negotiate. They ended up agreeing to make it light for half of a day and night for the other half. The bear then said he wanted it to be colder for longer periods of time. They ended up agreeing to have half of the year be warm and the other half be cold.  Grizzly Bear and Coyote - Source   Story Source

Two wives were stolen from a man named Hawk-Man. He became very angry so he began to summon the rain. Once it began to rain, it did not stop. It rained all night and the water began to rise until it started flowing into peoples' homes. The man who stole the two wives decided he will kill Hawk-Man instead of returning the wives. He successfully killed Hawk-Man and the rain stopped. Once all of the water finally receded, people noticed that all of the fire on earth was put out. At first it was not a problem, but it became one very soon. Owl decided to look around the world to see if he could find some fire. When Owl returned he explained how he found a house with smoke. Everyone decided to go to the house to try and take some fire. Dog had some punk in his ear as he went as well. At the lodge, they asked to come inside to warm themselves. Once inside, they all tried to take some fire and run! However, the people who owned the fire made it rain and all the torches went out. Only dog w...

Week 10 Story: Raven's Betrayal

Image
It was 6 months since I was banished from my tribe. I won't go into details of what happened exactly, just that I would be killed if I ever went back. Probably for the best. They were going to get themselves killed anyways. Living alone was so much better! I only had myself to worry about and I could just do whatever I wanted. I ended up building a house off the coast of the Northern Sea. It was a small house; just one room, but it was home. I'm not completely alone either. There are plenty of seals that lay on the coast and are a great source of food. Good listeners too. The morning sun shone bright through my window as I wake up to start another day. I don't have anything planned today so I cook up a quick breakfast of seal meat and berries and sit on my porch, listening to the crash of the waves and the barks of the seals nearby. I look down the coast to see a particularly large bird- a raven.  Once he is close enough I send him my greetings, "Hello raven! What brin...
